Tieback Anchors in Fall Protection – Everything You Need to Know

Fall Arrest & Tieback Anchors

Several other names are commonly used to refer to tieback anchors. Many call the anchor a Davit, although a Davit is a separate type of Equipment. The most common alternative term is “Roof Anchor.” Other terms include:

  • Tie-back
  • Safety Tie-back
  • Safety Anchor
  • U-bar
  • Davit Anchor
  • Roof Anchor Point
  • Fall Arrest Anchor
  • and Fall Protection Anchor

The Role of a Roof Anchor System in Fall Protection

Tieback Anchors are the most used form of fall protection and permanent window washing equipment. They are versatile tools, designed for multiple uses; they may be used as a stand-alone product or in conjunction with various other forms of permanent equipment such as window washing davits, horizontal lifeline fall protection, rigging sleeves and outrigger beams.

Why are Fall Arrest Anchors So Important?

At first glance, a fall arrest anchor appears to be a straightforward piece of equipment. However, upon further investigation, you begin to learn that it is a technical piece of equipment.

A standard Pro-Bel tieback anchor, although small in stature, is mighty and is designed to an ultimate load of 5,000 lbs. Pro-Bel anchors are field-verified by static load testing to 2,500 lbs. Working loads for roof anchors are dependent on the type of use.

However, generally speaking they are rated for at least 1000lbs (minimum). Fall arrest load is 900lbs when using for a Tie-off anchor for fall protection; when utilizing for a Tie-Back anchor when rigging with for example, an outrigger beam for a temporary suspended platform, it is the capacity of the motor that dictates, the working load, most rental hoists on the market are rated f for 1000lbs (hence a typical “working load” or “rated load of 1000lbs).

Pro-Bel engineers and manufactures standard or customized roof anchors to meet all standards or project requirements.

What Factors Should I Consider for Roof Anchor Systems?

There are many factors to consider when designing a roof anchor system, as there is no standardized layout and they differ from building to building. Each building has unique conditions that will affect the way that a window cleaner or building maintenance worker performs their duties. When Pro-Bel designs a roof anchor system, we consider the most practical and convenient method that the worker will use. We then design the most economical system that aligns with the strategy and meets all applicable codes and standards.

How Can I Get a Fall Protection System?

The rooftop anchorage system must be designed by qualified personnel due to its complex nature and the associated risks.
