Pro-Bel is excited to announce that we are now offering a free online WHMIS training course for all workers across Canada. Whether you or your team are new to the workforce or simply need to renew certification, this course is designed to provide a clear and practical understanding of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and how it keeps workers safe on the job site.
Understanding WHMIS training requirements in Canada is essential for both workers and employers to stay compliant and maintain a safe workplace.
What the WHMIS Training Course Covers
Our fully online course will allow you to complete your training at your own pace, either on your personal smartphone or laptop. It covers key topics such as hazard classifications, labels, safety data sheets (SDS), and safe handling practices for a variety of hazardous materials. We will ensure that every worker has the information and education they will need to recognize risks and work safely.
A WHMIS training course typically includes:
- Hazard classifications and categories
- WHMIS labels and pictograms
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Safe handling, storage, and disposal practices
- Responding to hazardous situations on site
Who Needs WHMIS Certification
WHMIS certification is mandatory in Canada for all workers, regardless of specialty or subtrade. If you’re an employer, your entire team will need to have properly documented completion of a WHMIS training course by an authorized facilitator - which Pro-Bel is pleased to provide.
WHMIS certification is required for:
- Workers handling or exposed to hazardous materials
- Supervisors overseeing work involving hazardous substances
- Contractors and subcontractors on job sites
How Certification Works
At the end of the WHMIS training course, all participants will receive a certificate of completion via email, which they can also print if a physical copy is desired. As most employers and organizations require regular WHMIS recertification, the certificate is also stamped with the date and time to provide proof that all your workers are fully compliant with all regulations and requirements.
Pro-Bel believes that safety shouldn’t be complicated or expensive. Our aim by offering this free online WHMIS training course is to ensure that every worker and workplace in Canada is just a little bit more informed, aware, and safe.

Why WHMIS Training Matters for Workplace Safety
WHMIS training plays a critical role in reducing workplace injuries and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Without proper training, workers may misinterpret labels, misuse materials, or fail to respond correctly in hazardous situations. Proper certification ensures every worker understands the risks and knows how to work safely.
Common WHMIS Mistakes Workers Make
Even with training, common mistakes include:
- Not reviewing Safety Data Sheets before handling materials
- Ignoring or misunderstanding hazard labels
- Using outdated or expired training knowledge
- Failing to follow proper storage or handling procedures
Regular training helps prevent these issues and improves overall workplace safety.
