Why Inspections?

OSHA and local authorities require all tieback anchors, roof anchors, lifeline anchors, roof davits, and other permanently installed suspended access equipment to undergo an annual fall protection inspection as a minimum requirement or per the manufacturer’s guidelines. Pro-Bel offers building owners and property managers OSHA-compliant fall protection inspections to ensure all equipment functions as intended.

Ensuring worker safety is a shared responsibility among building owners, employers, and their agents, including architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors. In the unfortunate event of an accident, proper documentation, such as engineered drawings, inspection reports, work plans, and procedures, is critical to reducing risk and liability and ensuring a safe workplace for those working at heights.

When Is Inspection Due?

In addition to the mandatory OSHA requirement for fall protection inspection, compliance with the ANSI-I14 Standard also requires re-certification of suspended maintenance anchorages when re-roofing or renovating (pertinent to the window cleaning system) and at periods not exceeding ten years. The owner's best defense is the documentation showing compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Outside of the annual inspection for roof anchors, every 5-10 years, the equipment needs to be recertified via load testing. The specific timeframe depends on the anchor's make and model. Generally, adhesive anchors need recertification every five years, while non-adhesive anchors require it every ten years. However, manufacturer guidelines may alter these intervals. If your equipment is due for re-certification, load testing may be necessary. For further details, visit our recertification page.

OSHA’s fall protection inspection requirements

"Building Owners and/or their operating agents shall provide window cleaning contractors with written assurance that the installation of the structure has been inspected, tested, and maintained in accordance with the requirement of the I-14.1 Standard, which puts significant emphasis on annual inspection" - ANSI / IWCA—Window Cleaning Safety Standard.

Since the 1970s, Pro-Bel has designed, engineered, manufactured, installed, inspected, and re-certified thousands of roof anchors and fall protection systems, including:

  • Permanent Roof Anchors/TieBack Anchors
  • Horizontal Cable Lifeline Systems
  • Roof Davits
  • Outrigger Beams
  • Monorail Hoists Systems
  • Rigging Sleeves

All permanent fall protection and fall arrest equipment must undergo an annual fall protection inspection in compliance with local authorities such as OSHA, Cal OSHA, and CCOHS. Similar inspections are required following any significant alteration to existing installations to maintain compliance and safety.

    Annual Fall Protection Inspection

The following fall protection equipment needs to be inspected annually or per the manufacturer’s instructions:

    • Roof Anchors and TieBack Anchors
    • Horizontal Cable Lifeline Systems

Our fall protection inspection services are designed to ensure the safety and reliability of your rooftop systems. Fall protection systems are essential for safeguarding workers when operating near roof edges. A horizontal cable is snaked through the roof anchors, and the worker attaches their harness to the cable to prevent them from going too close to the edge.

These systems must be inspected regularly to ensure anchor points are in peak condition and the lifeline remains securely attached. Schedule your fall protection inspection today to ensure OSHA compliance and worker safety.
